New York City Day 2: Brooklyn and Central Park

Our second day in the Big Apple was a stunner. The weather was perfect, and it was a great day to be out and about, starting with a free walking tour across Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn Heights and through DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) with Free Tours By Foot. Our guide Dante took us for a 3km walk and talked us through the history of the bridge and the area, including the fact that the iconic bridge might not have been completed if it weren't for Emily Warren Roebling, who took over the project after her husband fell ill.

After a quick lunch break, we took the subway back across to Manhattan where we were meeting our friend Felicity from NZ, who coincidentally happened to be in NYC the same time we were. We'd arranged to meet up a few blocks away from Central Park, to hire bikes for a few hours and enjoy the stunning day the city had put on for us. It's amazing to think that this massive green space exists right in the middle of the hustle and bustle for the world's busiest city.

Following a few laps, and a couple stops for photos, we cycled back to return our bikes and head back towards to bottom of Manhattan to meet some friends for dinner at Brookfield Place (I wish I had taken some photos of the food at Le District - the steak and oysters were absolutely delish), before turning in for the night.
